Emphasis in Media and Society

Films, television and digital media shape perceptions of others, ourselves, and society. Students pursuing the Media and Society area of emphasis analyze
the representation of social relations — including gender, religion, race and sexuality — in order to become literate media consumers, activists, producers
and scholars. Grounded in the Humanities, this track culminates in a capstone experience in which students produce a research paper on an aspect of the
media’s relationship to cultural identity and social practice.

The Media and Society area is supervised by Professor Aaron Baker. For more information on this area of emphasis, you may contact him at: Aaron.Baker@asu.edu.

FMS majors complete 12 credit hours, or four courses, in their area of emphasis.
